Middlesex County Youth Championships 25/26th March 2017

Congratulations to the Anaconda swimmers who took part in this years Middlesex County Youth Championships, held at the London Aquatics Centre in Stratford over the weekend.

34 swimmers swam in 103 events over the two days with the club represented in 31 finals and winning 9 medals, 5 gold,1 silver and 3 bronze.

Elena Dewhurst won 3 golds,in the Girl’s 14yr 50m butterfly (30.21) 100m freestyle (1:01.0) and the 50m freestyle in a scintillating time of 27.39. This 50m free time time places Elena at number 1 in the British rankings which bodes well for the rest of the season.Tommy Donovan won the double with two golds in the 16yr 100m breaststroke ( 1:08.87 )and the 50m breaststroke (30.67.) Tommy’s 50m breastroke time equalled the Middlesex County Boys record, he also won the AurumTrust Trophy and the Allen J Perring Trophy presented to the fastest Junior (16/u) in the 50m &100m breaststroke respectively.

Elena also claimed a silver medal in the 50m backstroke (32.69)and Tommy finished with bronze medals in the 200m breaststroke (2:35.79) and 50m butterfly (27.98). Alice Hockey won a bronze medal with a very strong swim in a very exciting 15yr 50m breaststroke final with a personal best 35.50.  Congratulations to all of our medal winners.

Anaconda were represented in a further 23 finals in the shape of Jess Neale (16) in the 50m butterfly (31.45-6th place)and 100m fly (1:14.15-10th) Sadie Wilson (15) in the 50m backstroke (34.23-9th) and 100m backstroke (1:16.24-10th)Dorothy Brock (14) in the  50m free (29.46-8th)and 100m free (1:04.58-10th) Polly Rayner (14) in the 50m breaststroke (37.90-7th) and 100m breaststroke (1:22.36-10th), Emily Thomas (16) in the 50m backstroke (36.30-10th) Sydney Celul (15) in the 50m free (28.83-6th)  Alice Bayley (13) in the 100m breaststroke (1:22.97-7th), Mabli Elliman(14) in the 50m breaststroke (39.04),Alice Hockey in the 100m breaststroke (1:22.74-4th), Elena Dewhurst in the 50m breaststroke (39.56-10th). For the boys we had Sam McAllister (14) in the 100m breaststroke (1:20.98-8th), Anatoly Bugakov (24) in the 50m butterfly (26.39-4th) and 50m free (25.82-9th), Alan Smeets (33) in the 50m free (25.12-7th), 50m butterfly (26.83-9th) and 50m backstroke (29.79-8th) and Tommy Donovan in the 100m backstroke (1:07.43-4th), 50m freestyle (26.22-5th) and 100m butterfly (1:03.35-6th). Well done to all of our finalists.

Anaconda were also represented by the following swimmers who all came away with personal bests to insure the club had its strongest County Championships to date. Well done to Esme Llewelyn-Smith(17) Daisy Bedwell(15), Dora Goudie (15),Emma Brealey (14), Honey Millard-Clothier (15), Celia Telford (15), Annie Thomas (14),  Leto Atherton (13), Annabel Mitchison (13) Ettienne Hutt (12), Evie Stansfield (11), Alex Tegene (20), Fred Goudie (18) Ali Woolley (15), Noah Boydell (15), Leon Butterworth (15),  Zack Genia-Hajithemistou (14) Zach Lyttle (14), Charlie Pliner (14) and James Brealey (12).

Coaches Wayne and Joe couldn’t have asked for any more from the swimmers who gave 100% throughout the championships, Wayne said “After this weekend it feels like we have taken a big step forward to achieving our goals as a club. We are so happy for the swimmers to see their hard work pay off and look forward to continuing the momentum.”
