Anaconda SC had both its British Champion, Elena Dewhurst and Head Coach Wayne Lock representing the London Region swimming team in the annual Flanders Cup, which was held in Antwerp, Belgium over the weekend.

The Flanders cup attracts many top professionals from all over Europe as the start of the long course season kicks off and Elena found herself up against former Olympic Gold medalist and world champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo.

Elena took part in four events, 50 & 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly and she secured good times for this stage of the season in the events but once again Elena showcased her sprinting talent by qualifying for the 50m freestyle ‘B’ final and showed how much she has matured as a swimmer by equalling her PB time of 26.79 in the final to finish 6th against the ‘Open’ age opponents, a fantastic achievement by Elena who was by far the youngest athlete in the race.

Head Coach Wayne Lock was selected to be a part of the coaching team and gained valuable experience on the international stage which can only help him progress on his own coaching journey.

Anaconda SC are very proud of the achievements of both Elena and Wayne and shows yet again that the swim program at the club is on the right track. Well done !
